I keep trying to get to this post, and then somehow time runs out! Such is life...we are busy again now that spring break is over. Matthew had a baseball game last night and practice tonight. Finally, I have a few minutes of peace while the little man is watching Karate Kid.
My plan for Grasslands was to run the full. I was super excited for a trail marathon, but my groin had other issues. The Tuesday before the race, I finally emailed to see if I could switch down to the half...not a problem they said.
Decatur is only about 40 minutes from us, and it was only about 20 more out to the actual course, so for once in my family's commitment to my running, we didn't have to leave until 6:00 a.m. We arrived a little after 7:00 and I had plenty of time to get my packet, stretch, go to the bathroom and get ready to go!
The course was CRAZY hard! It wasn't very technical, but we ran through sand the ENTIRE way...and when I say sand, I mean running on the beach sand! You could hardly get your footing. It took me 10 miles to really start to feel good and get a good pace and by then it was almost over!
I had a great finish...I came up behind a friend of a friend who I had beaten at Rockledge Rumble and was about to pass him when he realized it was me...he later said he could NOT let me beat him, so we kicked it in sprinting. Alas, he had more energy and I started laughing so he ended up beating me! It was a great race and I hope to do it next year...the FULL! I am not sure what my time or place was as the website was not updated yet.
I am still recovering with a sore knee (that sand was a pain!) and my groin is tight. Yesterday's 4 miler was painful and sad until mile 3. Today's run/ death march was just a joke! I am hoping to feel better soon...this is making me crazy!
